Exploring Symmetry and Number Patterns!

The children had fun making symmetrical designs and number patterns at our math stations this week!  It was interesting to see the designs and hear the conversations about what makes something "symmetrical."  Check out our exploration and see the learning taking place during our play with pattern blocks and cubes!

Ryan creating a design for Kwynn to match, slide and flip to
make it have symmetry!

This is Alfie trying to score!  He has 2 hockey sticks because he needs to be symmetrical!

This is where the line of symmetry would be..

We can keep adding 5 each time!

The numbers repeat down!
(Looking for number patterns in the 100 chart)

Taking away 1 each time to make a pattern.  Then matching, sliding
and flipping it to make a symmetrical design too!

Adding 1 each time. Subtracting 1 each time.
(Joined number patterns together)

This week the children also continued investigating living things.  Each child had a specific wondering about an animal and began researching to find the answer.  They also chose to show some of their learning through art!  Many children started creating their animal out of clay and created it's habitat out of "found" materials from home and the classroom!  We will be continuing these investigations next week!  Photos will be posted once finished!

Our Field Trip to the Science and Technology Museum!

We went to the science and technology museum.  First, we went to the Energy and Forces Workshop.  We learned about energy.  We had fun racing cars with solar energy!  We shined light on the solar panel to make the car move!  Then we launched air rockets using our hands to force the air to shoot the rocket.  We hit Ms. Quinn!  We also hit Mrs. Troy!  Next, we ate lunch outside.  After we explored the museum!  We went into the "Digital Network."  We traveled through tunnels and went down pitch black slides!  It was really scary!  It was really FUN!  Next we went into the Crazy Kitchen!  The Crazy Kitchen was crooked and hard to walk through!  It was fun!  We saw a bottle with Connor's name on it!  We also found a note in the kitchen too!  Some friends then went to explore the hamster wheel, the trains, the electric eels and the snowmobile!  Last we went on the bus.  We saw 2 deer in a field.  It was AWESOME!

Thank you to all of our parents for coming and helping out!  We really enjoyed the day!

Field Trip and Other Reminders!

Happy Tuesday!

I am so excited to share that I have now learned how to add more information to our blog!  YAHOO!  Starting soon, you will see a copy of our weekly homework and monthly newsletters on the blog.  Check out some of the learning sites we also use for our Literacy and Math Stations!

Friday is our field trip to the Science and Technology Museum.  A BIG thank you goes out to all of our volunteers for the day!  Volunteers are asked to meet us at the museum for 10am.  The children will need to travel to and from the museum on the day.  We will be leaving the museum at 1:30.  The cost for each student to attend the Energy workshop and explore the museum will be covered by the activity fee collected at the beginning of the school year.  Please remember to send snacks and a lunch with your child on Friday.
